About Bayburt City:
According to available sources, the history of Bayburt dates back to BC , dating back to 3000 BC.
The city was founded by Shahir Azizlar between 665-770, attacked by the Simerians and Scythians. Later, Haldis took control of the region, which had been in Medes for a short time, and later came under Persian control.
It has been associated with the Kingdom of Pontus since BC It was under Roman rule. In the forties Bayburt Castle, built by the Urartians, was restored during the reign of Roman Emperor Justinian, captured by the Umayyads in 705, in 715. Bayburt, which was the scene of constant wars between the Turks and Byzantines after 850, became a place where Muslim Turks began to settle, and by 1048, the area was now heavily populated by Turks.
The Seljuks conquered Bayburt in 1054. In 1081, Bayburt came under the rule of the sons of Saltuq, who belonged to the Seljuk state, and then the sons of Mengucek. After that, the governor of Trabzon Theodore Gebras regained Bayburt, which had been occupied by Danishmentler and then the Byzantines, and declared his sovereignty. The Mongol invasion destroyed Bayburt. About 1,000 Turkmen were sent to Denizli from Bayburt, where 60,000 Turkmen settled, on the grounds that they were harming the region. Mogus al-Din Tuğrul Shah, brother of the Seljuk Sultan of Anatolia Suleyman Shah, Bayburt Castle was rebuilt between 1200 and 1230.
Now Bayburt is a serviced city and a city distinguished by its easy services and transportation that is not tiring.

A modern University built on land with an area of 2289 acres, Bayburt University was founded in 2008, The University contains a large modern library with more than 105 thousand printed books and more than 20 thousand electronic books and contains laboratories with the latest technology and large halls as well as modern sports facilities.
It contains a cultural center and also the Mustafa Kossaoglu Mosque that can accommodate 5000 worshipers, it also has a hotel for university guests, it contains student housing that can accommodate 3500 people.
It includes educational and cultural activities, conferences, forums, seminars, trips, concerts and many other activities.
The University consists of 11 faculties and 6 institutes in addition to high graduate programs.
